King Cobra (King P-234 x Mimi Warner by Lucky Blanton) was trained and ridden to four AQHA ROMs by my mother, Caroline (then) Fisher. The fourth, in  reining,  was earned after issuance of the certificate below. It was less customary then for show horses to be pampered one trick ponies, and Cobra spent her share of time scrambling through the underbrush after cattle, giving riding lessons to young family members, and so on. She taught some lessons to young horses too - she was an "alpha", and intolerant of disregard for her position.  There is some interesting info about King's offspring at the PremierPub website.

The cousins are not just stuck there for a photo op, they are riding - not well, but riding. This mare was pushbutton, what you put in was what you got out - in detail. The girls kept their day jobs. I'm guessing Cobra was 19 at the time.

 

Some years later - this is the smaller of the two girls in the picture above. Although she rode more than her sister she never took horsemanship beyond the stage grandmother termed "hang and rattle". The photograph itself is another one that didn't turn out too well. I am quite tempted by a scanner that is specially equipped for working with negatives, but one way or another, I will eventually get around to improving quite a few of the pictures on the site.
