There are some differences between the AQHA version of his pedigree, shown above, and Nelson Nye's, below. There were quite a few "Nuggets" (gold and otherwise) mentioned in both registries, but I think that there is agreement on that point - Lucky probably didn't sire many by that name. Also, the Trammell-Newman Mare below could have been named "Katy Belle", which would resolve that detail. Even then, there are some unresolved questions - the AQHA occasionally makes mistakes, and while Nye is a reasonably good authority, I suppose that he was "only human" too.

 
 

Despite steaming heaps of hyperbole, the excerpt (below) from Nelson Nye's "Outstanding Quarter Horse Sires" is fairly good, shedding some light on the fact that Lucky Blanton was not only a rope horse. People also began to realize that many of his children and grandchildren were capable of the slide-to-the-horizon kind of reining stop, and had plenty of "cow", quite apart from roping. The thing is, Tom Mattart was an avid roper, so it just naturally followed that the horse was presented mainly in that venue, and that many of the people who bred mares to him also had roping as their primary goal.
