| Just
a handful of mares here these days, and I am suddenly aware
how few pictures we've got. |
Cassandra
Starlight
Grays Starlight x Doc's Cassandra
by Doc Bar
She has a Smart Chic O'Lena colt now two, soon up for
sale, another on the ground as of April/06. There was
some temptation to keep Chico "senior" had the
new foal been a filly, but as it is... we don't
need both. |

Holly Mayo
Gay Bar King x Hollywood Mayo
This is one of the few pictures I have of her - roughly
20 years old then. The miserable little fellow beside
her soon acclimatized to his new world and is now quite
robust, a long yearling, as of Oct/05/05. Holly has another
onboard, same cross, and if it is also a colt, then one
or the other will be sold - probably. She does not have
a page, although the
colt does. |

Twice Royal Rocinante
Docs Twice Royal x Lucky Contadina
by King McConnell
Photo taken at 2 years, a gawky stage. Now five (?),
she'll get a page here someday, presently has a filly
by "Dunnit",
her first baby, and I am quite pleased. The filly hasn't
quite made up her mind about color, born an ash blonde
dun, likely to turn out a very dark dun.

Miss Colonel Boon
Colonel Freckles x Boons Pride
by Boon Bar
No page, no decent pictures. Caroline got her as a possible
"keeper" broodmare, and she made us wonder at
first. But, her babies *do* shape up after a lackluster
phase. Thankfully - we have too few mares as it is, and
time is passing, so we'd feel it worse if one wouldn't
produce well.
She checked in foal to "Dunnit"
- last year, and lost it somewhere along the way. We would
have repeated the cross to Twice Royal had her
earlier foal by him looked as good then as
he does now. So, as it turns out, the old guy gets another
shot at her. |

Lucky Contadina
- foaled 1981
King McConnel x Red Paisana by Osage Red
(Approx. 20, 21 years in photo)
She was 3'rd place Working Cow (west coast) sometime around
1984, maybe 1985. I may someday take the time to find
her in old magazines. The NRCHA is no help; when
they absorbed the CRCHA they lost the records. In any
case, she is/was one of my all-time favorite rides - quick,
powerful, fast. She
shares a page with her mother.

Docs Double Diana
Lucky Colonel x Docs Peppy Jessica
by Peppy San Badger
I think she's four now, so this picture is a little out
of date. Like her mother, our only criticism is that she's
short, (no longer *this* short)
otherwise outstanding.

Dox Elegant Girl
Peppy San Badger x Elegant Doc
by Doc Bar
Home again after 21+ years on the road - Caroline sold
her as a weanling, and bought her back, Feb 06.
We ended up without any Elegant Doc daughters,
regretted it, and are really pleased about this. In this
picture she's about ten minutes out of the trailer from
Montana, 22 years old. Elegant Doc was a 1974(?) 3/4 sister
of Twice
Royal's, also out of King
Cobra xKing. |
 |
| Incidentally, she came in
foal to Jewel
Dun It for a late foal - not the type of breeding
we are after, so the baby will be offered for sale. Sept.
06 update - he's on the ground now, hard to fault, and
has heaps of personality. |

Foxie Merada
Freckles Merada x Foxie Doc by Doc
Bar
This one was acquired Sept. 06 in an effort to patch another
hole in the bunch here. We got only a few foals out of Doc's
Diana, full sister of Foxie
Doc, who was sold at maybe 3 years. So, a daughter
of Foxie Doc has special value to us.
Foxie Merada and Foxie Doc both had good careers together with
nice production stats. The NCHA "Top 100 leading lifetime
cutting horse dams" presently lists Foxie Doc at number
59, and Foxie Merada at 86 .
